Quarterly Newsletter Fall 2013

Our 14th Annual New Hope & Lambertville AIDS WALK is happening this weekend on Sunday, October 6th. This is always an amazing fund raiser with equally amazing people! My heartfelt thanks go to our sponsors, walkers, volunteers, the river towns of New Hope & Lambertville and their police & staff, the High School, all those who have donated to our walkers, those businesses that have donated food and prizes, and especially to our AIDS WALK Committee, headed by our board member, Herb Andrus. Our hard working all-volunteer board also gets a huge thank you, for not only the AIDS WALK, but for all that they do throughout the year. The WALK begins at the New Hope Solebury High School on Bridge Street in New Hope with registration starting at 9:00 am and the walk beginning at 10:00 am. Although the Walk’s route is along the canal path in within both towns, FACT Bucks County services all of Bucks County in PA, and Hunterdon and Mercer Counties in NJ. FACT has raised thousands of dollars at each WALK with millions being raised from various other events and grants since 1992. We have helped thousands of local people and their families living with HIV/AIDS with assistance in their every day finances. FACT also grants funds for HIV/AIDS education and prevention programs; recent grants have been given to LifeTies, Planned Parenthood and to HiTOPS. We also have initiated a student scholarship program and voted to name two of the scholarships in memory of Rick Shaw (past president) and in the name of Eddie Coogan (past board member); both Eddie and Rick were devoted FACT members and community supporters. Please join FACT and friends at the Annual AIDS WALK for all the fun and be a part helping FACT help others in need.

Our great supporters and friends at The Raven will have a special brunch (from 12 to 3), featuring Wednesday Night Supper Club’s, Dwayne Dunlevy, in honor of the AIDS WALK on Sunday. Also appearing at The Raven is, the ever so talented, Bob Egan. If you can’t take the time to actually walk, enjoy a leisurely brunch and you can make a donation there; reservations required by calling 215-862-2081, There will be a WALK Afterparty (around 3-pm is the start time) hosted by The Raven and FACT volunteer, Jack Fahy (must be 21+) in honor of our board member and AIDS WALK Committee Chairperson, Herb Andrus; featuring Dwayne Dunlevy, Liz DeFour, Elaine Paxton, Dina Dispenz, Thunder Showers, and Summer Clearance. There is no admission for the Afterparty, but donations to FACT will be accepted. Then stay for the very popular Raven Tea Dance.  FACT is blessed to have the dedicated people that we have.

Our next BINGO is Jingle Bell BINGO on December 11 (doors open at 6:00). We suggest reservations and you can do that on-line at our web site too.

Selling out fast is The Bucks County Cabaret, featuring Alan Cumming at the Bucks County Playhouse on Saturday, October 19, to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. As of this newsletter, tickets are still available by contacting the Playhouse at 215-862-2121. For the last two years Broadway Cares has granted funds to FACT Bucks County and we are grateful to be part of their team.

Stay tuned for news for FACT’s observance of  WORLD AIDS DAY on Sunday, December 1.

FACT would also like to welcome Paul Licitra as our newest Board member.  Not only is he my Uncle, but he has been a local community supporter for over 34 years.  FACT has always been a family affair and now it truly is.  Glad you are here Uncle Paul!

This is beautiful time of the year, so come out and enjoy all that our area has to offer and support all of the businesses that support our local charities.
